I’ve decided that I was going to take the plunge. It’s not what you think. I’m committed to granting myself some “me time”. How often do we put ourselves at the bottom of the “take care” of list? Or, thinking I’d rather spend money on a new handbag or pair of shoes? Spas can get expensive but we need to ask ourselves…“am I worth it?”
Of course you are!
But not all spas are treated equal. I’ll be providing you with spa reviews from time to time sharing my experiences with you..the good, the meh..and even something different.
Starting off with one of my favourite spa experiences of water therapies. There are two experiences that I’ve loved one that’s indoors and the other outdoors but both are based on European and Asian concepts of plunge pools. Essentially you go from warm to cold to hot to cold and continue on a circuit that helps improve your circulation, soften skins, and gets rid of toxins. The therapeutic benefits are proven for overall health and wellness.
The Body Blitz Spa has a couple of locations in Toronto. Women of all ages gather here and many are comfortable roaming around half naked or full buff. I must admit that I felt a little shy about it at first but about half way through my first visit I was able to shed my bikini top. I was more confident the second time around and was able to go completely naked as I moved through the water therapy circuit. It’s quite liberating and no one is here to judge you but yourself. Hey, I’m a true believer of experiencing these sort of things the way they are recommended. The water circuit includes a dip into the Dead Sea Salt pool, Aromatherapy steam room, Epsom Salt pool, and in infra-red sauna. You repeat the circuit. I spent about 2 hours and I may have fallen asleep on in the resting zone a few times. A one time pass is $54. Massage therapy is also available. Take advantage of the smoothie bar as well. The smoothie menu is full of great choices and will be freshly blended and delivered to you pool side. Visit bodyblitzspa.com for details.
The Scandinave Spa has several locations in Canada. I had visited the location in the Blue Mountain, Collingwood area in Ontario. The concept is similar only it’s outdoors and it’s co-ed. No one goes buff here. The experience is unique at this location as it’s set outdoors amidst tall pine trees and the sound of nature. It’s incredibly tranquil to be enjoying one of their hot plunge pools while breathing in the fresh outdoors. The water circuit is based on traditional Scandinavian Baths that include a Finnish Sauna, Eucalyptus Steam Room, thermal and Nordic waterfalls, hot baths, and really cold plunge pools. They have a strict quiet policy outdoors. I had a hard time with that as I had visited with a few girlfriends. The Scandinave Spa also has registered massage therapists in house and a healthy cafe on site. Visit scandinave.com for details on rates and special getaway packages. This outdoor spa is open all year round.
