Thousands of people around the world taking the LIVE BELOW THE LINE challenge to raise awareness for the 1.2 billion people living in extreme poverty each day.
LIVE BELOW THE LINE 2014 is an innovative campaign that transforms the way individuals think and engage with extreme poverty issues and we encourage everyone to participate to understand and raise awareness.
Believing that if we are to eradicate extreme poverty we must first understand it, LIVE BELOW THE LINE, presented by the Micronutrient Initiative , challenges participants to eat and drink for $1.75 a day for five days – the extreme poverty threshold that 1.2 billion people worldwide must survive on for all of their needs.
Those that live below the extreme poverty line cannot afford food that provides them the essential vitamins and minerals for healthy bodies and minds. In fact, the most critical window of opportunity to receive essential vitamins and minerals is the 1,000 days between conception and a child’s second birthday. The Micronutrient Initiative works directly with mothers and children in over 70 nations in the developing world to ensure children receive the essential vitamins and minerals they need.
So, will you LIVE BELOW THE LINE so others may rise above it?
Here’s how you can get involved…
1. Register your family or team at www.livebelowtheline.ca
2. Choose a Canadian partner organization to support.
…just to name a few.
3. Share your experience with your friends on social media. On Twitter #belowtheline
From April 28th to May 2nd, 2014, take the challenge by spending no more than $1.75 per day, per person on food and drinks. TIP: the more people on your team, the more funds you can combine to purchase groceries!
