I admit to being a macaron addict and, sure, I have my all time favourites that can be found in most shops…cassis, caramel of any variation but I also keep an eye out for unique flavours like black sesame and yuzu anything.
Macaron Day (March 20th) is celebrated in Toronto and other cities around the world and for us here in the city, it’s almost become a sporting event which I’m most happy to participate in and not as a spectator! It’s a great way to usher in the Spring (it’s coming, I promise!).
One of my favourite shops, Butter Avenue, is already well-known for their amazing macarons but Macaron Day is when their team of bakers go over the top to create some of the most sought-after flavours in the city by using all-natural ingredients and no additives. I can tell you now that you MUST make your way here on Friday, before they are all gone.
In the limited-edition flavours for the day is a surprisingly delicious Orange Spinach flavour. Who says you can’t have veggies for dessert? It’s a definitely must try! Another hands-down favourite flavour that will also be available is Molten Chocolate Marshmallow — I’ll most definitely be grabbing a box of these alone. And, hey, Butter Avenue, I think these need to be become a permanent flavour on your roster!
I had a chance to try six flavours that will be available on Macaron Day but Tina, the head pastry chef mentioned that there will be over 20 flavours available that day! All the flavours I’ve tried in the preview are stellar including Guava Plum, Spring My Love (Safflower Raspberry), Matcha Red Bean and Coconut Pineapple. I don’t know what addictive ingredients they’ve put in them BUT I WANT MORE!
Aside from the flavour line-up, remember that the meaning behind Macaron Day is to give back to charity. The owners have informed me that they’ve increased their donation percentage this year to 35% of all macaron day sales and will be supporting North York General Hospital Foundation. That’s so amazing!
In addition, they’ve announced a social media contest. Upload you Butter Avenue Macaron photos on March 20th and you have a chance to win something special from them! Make sure you use the hashtags #MacaronDayTo #ButterAvenue and @ButterAvenue and tag your friends too! More details about their contest on their Facebook and Instagram pages!

How many more sleeps? It’s definitely on my list to visit on Friday! I can’t wait! Who will I see there?
