An Intimate Nixon Revealed

U.S. President Richard Nixon was known for the famous Watergate scandal. He was considered one of the most controversial Presidents in the history of the United States. Newly uncovered Super 8 home movies taken by three of Nixon’s closest aides, have been assembled along with other rare footage in this award-winning film.

OUR NIXON is a documentary that presents these home movies for the first time. It offers a surprisingly intimate glimpse into Nixon’s White House years. Haldeman, Ehrlichman and Chapin filmed over 500 reels of home movies from 1969 to 1973 capturing big events including the Apollo Moon landing, historical anti-war protests and Nixon’s world-changing trip to China. In 1972, he was the first U.S. President to visit China on an official trip since the People’s Republic of China was established in 1949.

“There aren’t any bad guys in home movies.”

~ Director, Penny Lane

Of course, there are Nixon’s White House tapes that are perhaps more humanizing than anything else. These tapes offer unedited and raw footage of the President that the world may never have seen before.

OUR NIXON is not an attempt to write a tidied-up history with only one ultimate meaning, nor an attempt to convince you of my own point of view. Rather, the film asks you to sift through the fragments of history in order to reach your own conclusions.”  — Penny Lane, Director

OUR NIXON opens August 30th in Toronto (Bloor Hot Docs Cinema), Montreal (Cinema du Parc), Regina (Regina Public Film Library), and Saskatoon (Broadway Theatre).
