Man Repeller

Blogger and author Leandre Medine coined the phrase “arm party” amongst other non-conforming fashion trends that then caught on to be actual trends. I started following her fashion blog a couple of years ago. Her style and quick-witted approach to fashion is fresh and different from others. It’s not really about repelling men, although many men would agree that harem pants and clogs are not very appealing, but it’s about women having the confidence in dressing however we want. Not for anyone else but for ourselves. Whatever makes you feel good, right?

On her site Medine describes a man repeller as “outfitting oneself in a sartorially offensive mode that may result in repelling members of the opposite sex. Such garments include but are not limited to harem pants, boyfriend jeans, overalls (see: human repelling), shoulder pads, full length jumpsuits, jewelry that resembles violent weaponry and clogs.”

My hubby would definitely tell you that UGGS and sorry, Birkenstocks and Crocs, are on the top of his list of man-repelling items. Ha! But whatever. I say wear what you want. He had the biggest smile when I eventually wore through my UGGS and had no choice but to chuck them. Another friend of mine loathes the wedged-sneakers that are continuing strong this season. I’m still debating on getting them.

Leandra Medine - Man Repeller Medine has recently published her highly anticipated book MAN REPELLER: SEEKING LOVE, FINDING OVERALLS, that has the same tone as her website. Nothing is off limits when it comes to fashion.

Medine will be making a personal appearance at Holt Renfrew Bloor Street (Toronto) on Thursday, October 17th at 5:30 pm in celebration of her new book. She will also be chatting live with FASHION Magazine’s online editor Randi Bergman and the event will follow with a book signing.

She’s entertaining, smart and damn funny! Go check out her site if you don’t know about Man Repeller already.

So, …what would you add to the list of “man-repelling” items?
