HotSpot: Fridays are for FNLROM

It’s starting to get pretty busy around here and Friday was perfect for taking time out to have some fun. I needed a great place to wind down…or wind up! I had heard about the Friday Night Live at the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto) and finally had a chance to check it out! YES! This is MY KIND of “research”.

I read about the party on the ROM website and discovered that each week had a different theme. It’s a popular event so tickets sell quickly online but the organizers at the museum that they reserve some tickets at the door.

This is waaaaaayyyy cool! With live entertainment including bands and DJs, this is definitely a place I’m going to revisit!

I have friends that are always looking for somewhere to go and “dance”, well, this is it! And it’s awesome! I’m not going to say it’s a “meat market” …it’s better than that and everyone was having a good time! According to the ROM reps, there are usually 2500 to 2900 people in attendance. What’s great is that the museum is spacious and wandering is encouraged.

Plenty of little tables were tucked into corners for what appeared to be “date night” for quite a few couples as well!  It felt like there was just the right about of bodies to fill the space without stepping on anyone’s toes — especially when the DJ had everyone hyped!

There are several bars set up throughout the museum gallery spaces, as well as, food stations from some happening restos, food trucks, and caterers in Toronto. I love the fact that I can explore the museum at night with drink in hand while contemplating Hot Bunzz (that’s food, yo), offal meat on fries (asian poutine?), cupcakes and more! Lots more!  It’s an event for all your senses!

Entertainment included the Raging Asian Women, an all-female Taiko Drumming group, and they were phenomenal! Live music on this evening also showcased several emerging Toronto musicians including Plaitwright & Charleston Relay (winners of Kollaboration Toronto) , Jamie Ruben Trio, and Spire Fusion. Amazing! Several other groups also played this evening in different areas. In keeping with the theme of films, movies like The Last Emperor were featured in exhibition halls.  Truly something appealing for all tastes!

I dragged Roy, co-founder of AZNmodern, out to do our research on this event. Okay, it wasn’t that hard to get him out. We both were blown away by how much fun this event was and you already know that the ROM is one of my favourite escapes in the city but seeing it at night gives it a totally different vibe.

By the way, if you do get a chance to go to the ROM soon, make sure you check out their thought-provoking  Carbon14: Climate is Culture contemporary exhibition. It’s worth visiting!

Roy is a riot….as he noticed all the beautiful people here and he said it totally raised the bar. “This would be a great date night spot,” he says.

“You may even have interesting and inspiring conversations here,” I responded. “Feels a little more cultured, right?”

Oh, and hey Roy, remind me to show you the SCOPIFY app next time we’re at the ROM. Think augmented reality. Now, THAT’S a great conversation starter!

By the way ladies, if you want me to introduce you to Roy, just let me know. I’m sure we’ll be back to Friday Night Live at the ROM! **winks**

If you’re looking for something fun to do make sure you check these events out before they are done! For more information visit the website at
