Why do I do this?

When I was growing up my dad always told my sister and I to experience life. He often pointed out something that seemed so every day and looked at it in a different light. Not to say that everything was viewed with rose-coloured glasses but we were taught to appreciate and experience every moment. We were also reminded that every human being and every creature has a story. We are all in this world together.

My friends have always mentioned that I should write a book, or something, to keep track of all my funny encounters and experiences. We’re always laughing as I seem to be at the “right place, right time.” I started “blogging” by sheer chance about four years ago on another site. I didn’t know too much about this medium but I was literally thrown into the arena with no knowledge. There was no testing out the waters. No life-jacket.  It was full-on from the get-go.  Today I write for three very different websites.

Readers have consistently commented to me that my passion shows through in my writing and that’s why they follow my posts. I’m totally humbled (and surprised) when complete strangers recognize me on the street and want to chat. It so nice to get feedback! My style of writing always comes up and readers often tell me “I feel like I know you.  You write like a friend sharing something really neat.”

YES! And that’s what comes naturally. I guess like I’m doing right now!

I’ve learned that if I stay true to what I’m passionate about whether it’s food, fashion, travel, arts & culture it really shows. I’m a scorpio so there’s no masking anything. But this past week…don’t know if it’s the Winter Blues or what but I have had a few days and nights of struggling and thoughts on why I do this.

I started this site with my friends Roy and Ace. They are equally as passionate about life and we share the same drive for experience. They hunger for what enriches life and both jumped into this pool without hesitation…like a full on canon ball. Then we have Evan our world traveller based in Costa Rica who’s been whetting our visual appetites from Hong Kong, Taiwan or wherever his latest travels take him. He regularly posts on our Instagram feed. Our guest posts include submissions from men’s fashion stylist Ryan – a fun-loving guy and another passionate individual. These peeps? They totally rock my world!  It truly is amazing to see how this site has organically grown in just a few short months since launching.

We feel very fortunate to have access to some amazing opportunities and meeting some incredibly inspiring people. The steady stream of invitations to experience is absolutely mind-blowing and priceless.

But to be honest, I’ve never gone in feeling like I am deserving of anything. I keep things in check.

Stay gracious. Stay humble.

But I was taught that what you put out there will come back to you ten-fold. I totally feel it. I had a conversation with a friend of mine about why I do this. He knows me well enough to know that I don’t do this for the money. Trust me. He knows that I do it for the sheer passion of sharing experiences.

One of my mantras, and I think it was the Dalai Lama who said this, isto do things without expectations of anything in return which is not always easy in a world where there are many takers.

Where this is all going it shaped by our readership too! We see the numbers and we see what stories are appealing to you….and it’s pretty awesome!! We’re so happy and grateful that you’re enjoying what we’re producing. Stay tuned! We’ve got a lot more exciting stories to share with you!

Thank you!
