Summertime is filled with incredible festivals across the country. It’s a perfect time to enjoy and experience a culture that is rich in so many ways. MOSAIC, the South Asian Heritage Festival of Mississauga will offer up the best in food, film, music, comedy, dance and more!
This is the ninth year for the festival and will take place at Mississauga’s City Centre from August 7 to 16, 2014.
Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival (MISAFF), kicks off opening night with a feature film. Notable films screening during MISAFF 2014 include the Canadian premiere of films such as VARA starring Shahana Goswami, directed by renowned Bhutanese Director Khyentse Norbu; Hank and Asha; the gritty Gangs of Tooting Broadway; Actor/ Director Rajat Kapoor’s charming Ankhon Dekhi; Anima State, a dark comedy and an allegorical Pakistani tale about the state of affairs in the country; and Sulemani Keeda, a comedy about film writers.
MISAFF documentaries include Meet the Patels, an audience favorite during the Toronto Hot Docs festival; Tomorrow We Disappear; and the Mississauga premiere of The Conflicted Samaritan. Short films include Canadian film, Just A Prayer, starring local talents Huse Madhavji and Farah Merani; and the award-winning Quebec film Nous Avions about a Pakistani family living in Montreal struggling to retain their identity as new dreams take flight.
Attracting audiences from across the GTA, MISAFF 2014 featured films include world premieres, Canadian premieres and presents films in Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Marathi, Pushto, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Kashmiri and Sindhi languages.
Rock the Coliseum music festival takes place on August 15/16. On Friday August 15, join in a free all-ages music festival supporting all genres of independent Canadian music, in collaboration with Independent Music Initiative.
Actor Vinay Virmani, best known for his role in the feature film Breakaway and his latest film Dr. Cabbie, will be the celebrity guest at the MISAFF CHAT.
Additionally, the festival will offer clay and pottery workshops for children and gardening demonstrations for all ages. The Visual Arts Program (VIRSA) is a prominent feature of Mosaic; this year, two exhibitions by local and international artists will be presented.
