It’s on practically every North Americanized Chinese food menu — General Tso! And it’s a favourite of many of my non-asian friends. But have you ever wondered how this dish got it’s name and how it got so popular? There are several theories!
Hot Docs has just announced the Toronto Premiere of THE SEARCH FOR GENEARL TSO – an official selection of the 2014 Tribeca Film festival, will screen on February 4th and 5th, at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema.
THE SEARCH FOR GENERAL TSO is a mouthwatering film that travels the globe to unravel the mystery of this culinary dish. Director Ian Cheney journeys from Shanghai to New York to the Americna Midwest and beyond to uncover the origins of this iconic dish, turning up surprising revelations and a host of humorous characters along the way. Told with the verve of a good detective story, the film is as much about food as it is a tale of the American immigrant experience.
The documentary will have several screenings. Director Ian Cheney will be in attendance to introduce the film and answer questions following the Wednesday, February 4th screenings, and producer Jennifer 8. Lee will be in attendance for a Q&A at the Thursday, February 5th screening.
