The Interior Design Show 2015 (IDS15) starts today in Toronto and it’s fabulously filled with decor ideas in so many ways! From complete updates to your living spaces to adding little touches, you’ll find so much to absorb here. I’m looking forward to getting there as it’s always inspiring to see established and emerging talent featured here.
There are many exhibitors to check out as well as seminars with some of the most well-known designers in the world. The show truly features everything dreamy and desirable but it’s a big show. So, how do you take it all in? I checked in with my friend Jennifer Ferreira of the incredible design firm, Ferreira Design.
In 2000, Jennifer joined the Gucci Group, one of the most recognized luxury fashion brands in the world. Gucci became a creative influence on all fronts. After five years with Gucci, Jennifer decided to start Ferreira Design and founded her Toronto-based design firm in 2007 that specializes in upscale interior design, planning and project management to residential and commercial clients. Her work is featured in many publications and she’s often called upon for advice from trends to entertaining tips. Her eye is impeccable and I’m always, ALWAYS drooling over her photos. What are you most excited to see at IDS2015?
Because my is business is growing, I’m always on the lookout for new local suppliers who I can work with to develop great product and where I can get good value for my clients without compromising quality. I’m really excited to see what Ikea comes up with this year! I think what they did last year was pretty amazing!
What are some trends we should keep an eye on?
Definitely the modern farm house look with lots of neutrals, black and white. It’s super simple and the most livable out of all the trends for 2015. I have also been seeing beautifully designed furniture that bridges between art and function. Moroccan Berber rugs have been coming up a lot on my radar. I was in Morocco last summer and sadly didn’t bring one home with me.
IDS is such a big show…tips on how to get the most out of this show?
My best advise is don’t spend too much time chatting with vendors. I only stop at booths if something catches my eye. I also like to go on the IDS website and look at who will be at the show then go online and do some research. If anything looks interesting I’ll add them on my list of people to see.
Upcycling is gaining more traction – any thoughts here?
Definitely!! I think people are becoming more and more environmentally aware and responsible. I have been seeing barn wood and reclaimed wood for over the past 7 years and don’t see that trend dying anytime soon.
Thoughts on homegrown talent in design? any on your radar and why?
There are so many incredibly talented designers in the city who are so inspiring. My all time favorite is Yabu Pushelberg.
Describe your style.
I think my style is very timeless but I think I’m best known for my take on modern classic.
