Celebrating World Cocktail Day with Grand Marnier

Is it a coincidence that Mother’s Day and World Cocktail Day land on the same day this year on Sunday, May 13, 2018? Let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to be sipping a margarita or a mai tai and a great reason to be celebrating it on World Cocktail Day in grand style.

Here are a couple of cocktail recipes using my favourite liqueur, Grand Marnier, an orange infused cognac to celebrate World Cocktail Day.  (Psst…make these for the moms in your life at your celebrations this weekend!)

Cheers to mom!

Grand Margarita

1 oz Grand Marnier Cordon Rouge

1 oz tequila

0.5 oz fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)

Slice of lime to garnish

Shallow bowl of salt to line your glass

Some ice

  1. Cut a lime in half and run it around half of your glass rim and holding the glass upside down, dip the wet side into the salt, so that it sticks to the rim.
  2. Pour the Grand Marnier, tequila and lime juice into a cocktail shaker with some ice and shake then strain it into the glass.
  3. Apply the lime wheel to the rim of the glass.

Grand Mai Tai

1 oz Grand Marnier Cordon Rouge

2 oz Appleton Estate rum (or a dark rum)

0.5 oz orgeat syrup (or almond flavoured syrup)

0.5 oz fresh lime juice

Some ice cubes

Lime slice, mint, pineapple leaf to garnish

  1.  Combine Grand Marnier, rum, orgeat syrup, lime juice with ice cubes into a cocktail shaker and shake briefly.
  2.  Strain it into a glass and add your garnishes
